Filled with White Duck Down and covered in a 330 thread count cotton shell, this duvet will provide comfort for years. The Alpine duvet is constructed with small baffled boxes which provide an easy care solution for people looking for convenience. The box baffle design inhibits the shifting of down in the duvet keeping it evenly distributed and requiring little care when making the bed. Now comes with Daniadown's Tie-down system - Corner Loops, compatible with our duvet cover corner ties to keep you duvet securely in place.

If your duvet requires a maintenance cleaning we recommend that you employ the services of a professional cleaners. However, if you wish to clean your duvet yourself please:

Use a mild detergent only. Harsh detergents can strip the down of its natural oils, making the down brittle. Our recommendation: Allied Down Wash
Rinse thoroughly, then double rinse to be sure residual soap does not cause the down to clump.
Because of the size of duvets, most home washers and dryers cannot handle the load properly. Common difficulties are that most home washers have a center agitator, which may damage the fabric when it is packed too tightly, and that rinse cycles may not be long enough to fully remove residual soap.
The drying of the duvet will require at least several hours (Air fluff or extra low heat only). Check that the down is not clumping as this may indicate that it is still wet (the ticking may be dry but that does not mean the down is). Add dryer balls to shorten the drying time as they will allow air to flow between the folded layers of the duvet while tumbling. If it is still clumping after you are sure enough time has passed, there may be residual soap on the down, you will have to re-rinse the duvet and dry it again.

Feathers are flat and two dimensional, with a heavy spine down the center. They are not good at insulating as they cannot trap air. However, they are good at providing support and are often used in pillows.

In comparison, down is a collection of three dimensional clusters that are able to trap air. A thick layer of trapped air is what insulates a sleeper against the colder outside air.

Loft, a.k.a. Fill power is a measure of the "fluffiness" of a down product.

Down (or any insulation) provides warmth by trapping a layer of air that separates the cold side from the warm side. A thicker layer of trapped air gives more insulation.

The higher the loft, the more insulating air pockets the down has, meaning it will keep you warm at night. While this air layer keeps you warm, it also allows for greater breathability, ensuring a peaceful nights sleep.

Down and feathers are a natural product and all things natural degrade over time. However, a good down duvet that has been properly cared for should last you 10-20 years; a good pillow should last you 5 years. Pillows don't last as long because of the oils in human hair and that they are compressed during sleep, while a duvet is not. To increase the longevity of your products you should use protectors and covers that you wash regularly.

Synthetic duvets and pillows do not last as long, as the manmade fibres will compress over time and, unlike down, they do not regain their loft through simply fluffing of the product. A synthetic duvet should be expected to provide reasonable comfort for 5 years while a synthetic pillow should last up to 2 years.
